Stars & Stripes Forever: a Salute to John Philip Sousa and the Music Of America

HERSHEY, PA – Under the direction of Dr. Sandra Dackow, the Hershey Symphony will present a special salute to the men and women in our Armed Forces with Stars and Stripes Forever: A Salute to John Philip Sousa and the Music of America on Saturday, November 6, 2004, 8:00 p.m., Hershey Theatre.  This special tribute is sponsored by the Mohler family in memory of Mr. & Mrs. Harold S. Mohler.

Join us as we pay tribute to John Philip Sousa, a legendary composer, conductor and patriot known by most Americans as the “March King.”  The program will feature a Sousa-like blend of light classics, novelties, plus a stellar roster of the world's best-loved marches, including "Semper Fidelis" and the most popular of all, "The Stars and Stripes Forever," declared the nation's official march in 1987.  This special event will also celebrate the anniversaries of Antonin Dvorak and Charles Ives.

The Hershey Symphony has become an integral part of the Central Pennsylvania community and its quality of life.  For more than 35 years, the Symphony has entertained music lovers throughout Central Pennsylvania with classical, romantic, baroque, contemporary, symphonic and Broadway favorites.  Comprised of outstanding local musicians, the Hershey Symphony Orchestra is one of the largest volunteer community orchestras in the nation.
