Hershey Symphony Orchestra Announces 2006-07 Young Artist Competition

May 31, 2006 - (Hershey, PA) – The Hershey Symphony Orchestra has announced that it will once again hold its annual Young Artist Competition.  Students enrolled in grades 7 through 12 during the 2006-2007 school year who reside in the following six counties in Pennsylvania: Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York are encouraged to participate in the HSO’s Young Artist Competition. Applicants are requested to submit cassette tapes or CDs of one movement of any Concerto for solo instrument (including voice) that is written with orchestral accompaniment to the Hershey Symphony Orchestra with an application form by September 29, 2006 The Competition requirements and application form can be found online at www.hersheysymphony.org.

Those selected for live audition will perform before a panel of highly qualified judges on October 18, 2006 at Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.  The winner(s) will be announced that evening following the auditions.  The winner of the competition will perform as a soloist with the Hershey Symphony Orchestra during the 2006-07 Classical Season.  The purpose of the Symphony’s Young Artist Competition is to foster young artists with superior musical abilities who reside in South Central Pennsylvania.

For over 35 years, the Symphony has entertained music lovers throughout Central Pennsylvania with classical, romantic, baroque, contemporary, symphonic and Broadway favorites.  Comprised of outstanding local musicians, the Hershey Symphony Orchestra is one of the largest volunteer community orchestras in the nation.  Orchestra members are your neighbors and friends.  They range from students to retirees and represent a true cross-section of the greater Hershey community.
