Hso Announces 2006-07 Season

HERSHEY, PA – Today the Hershey Symphony Orchestra announced its 2006-07 concert season.  With more than 75 musicians as the backbone of this ensemble, they are highly motivated and committed to another season of great orchestral music, offering The Trumpets Shall Sound.

“This season’s repertoire brings you the rhythm of Gershwin, the drama of Brahms, the genius of Mozart and renowned trumpet soloists and more as the Symphony presents “The Trumpets Shall Sound,” says Dr. Sandra Dackow, HSO Music Director.

The HSO kicks off its season on the grounds of the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with a free fall celebration on Saturday, September 23, 2006 beginning at 4:00 p.m.  The community is invited to an afternoon of live music, food and fun.  Proceeds from food and vendor sales will benefit Children's Miracle Network at Penn State Children's Hospital. All funds for CMN directly support pediatric patient services, ground-breaking research and vital pieces of equipment at The Children's Hospital.  This concert is free of charge and open to the public.  Advanced notification of attendance is not required.

The Hershey Symphony’s Annual Young Artist Competition will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2006, 7:30 p.m., Elizabethtown College.  This year’s finalists will perform a free concert and the winner will be determined at the conclusion of the evening.  The community is encouraged to attend the evening’s performances to help support music education in our local community.

The afternoon of October 28, at 3:00 p.m., brings our annual children’s concert, helping to educate children on the wonderful world of music.  This free concert will be held at the Hershey Theatre on October 28.  Advanced notification of attendance is not required.

The Symphony will open its classical season with ‘Halloween at the Movies’ on October 28, 2006 at the Hershey Theatre, 8:00 p.m.  Renowned trumpeter Daniel Patrylak will be featured.  The evening’s repertoire will feature Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 in g minor, music associated with Alfred Hitchcock, the Concert Suite from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Pirates of the Caribbean.  This special evening is sponsored by Col. (Ret.) The ever-popular Holiday Spectacular will be presented on December 1, 2006, 8:00 p.m., at the Hershey Theatre.  With well-known favorites of Tchaikovsky, Anderson and Berlin, this concert is guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit.  Special guest for the evening will be the winner of the 2006 Young Artist Competition. The Hershey Symphony Orchestra will accompany the Central Pennsylvania Regional Ballet for their presentation of the Nutcracker on December 2 and 3, 2006 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.  Tickets can be purchased through the PA Regional Ballet by calling 717-732-2172.

On February 24, 2007, 8:00 p.m. at the Hershey Theatre, the Hershey Symphony Orchestra will pay tribute to Gershwin with their presentation of ‘We’ve Got Rhythm.’  Gershwin favorites will be performed by the Symphony and special guests for the evening will be the Hershey Big Band.  Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 717-533-8449.  Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $5 for students.  Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

The classical season will conclude on April 28, 2007, 8:00 p.m. at the Hershey Theatre with ‘The Trumpets Shall Sound’ featuring world-renown trumpet virtuoso Allen Vizzutti.  This performance will also feature outstanding trumpet students from throughout Central Pennsylvania who will join the orchestra during the Triumphal March from Verdi's Aida. The Symphony’s annual “Shall We Dance?” Benefit Gala will be held on July 7, 2007, with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center.  This wonderful event has grown into one of the premier black tie events in the area.  Join the Orchestra and music lovers for a wonderful evening of ballroom dancing and great music from The Hershey Symphony and returning to the stage by popular demand will be The Hershey Big Band.  Tickets for this special evening are $65 per person.  Special discounts are available on the purchase of tables.
