Young Artist Will Be Recognized By Hershey Symphony

HERSHEY, PA – The Hershey Symphony Orchestra announced today that it has selected the six finalists for its sixth annual Young Artist Competition.  On Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at 7:30 p.m., the Symphony will hold the finals for the Young Artist Competition at Elizabethtown College in Zug Recital Hall.   The competition finals are open to the public and free of charge.  Advanced notification of attendance and tickets are not required.

The mission for the Hershey Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition is to encourage talented student musicians to continue their studies and to recognize qualified young artists who do not have the opportunity for exposure and experience that this Young Artist Competition will provide.

The winner will be announced immediately following the concert at the reception, which is also open to the public. The winner(s) will perform as soloist(s) with the Hershey Symphony on December 1st  2006 at the Hershey Theater.  Judges for the competition are accomplished musicians and each student receives a critique with suggestions and encouraging comments.

The following young artists have been selected as the finalists and will perform a movement from a concerto with their accompanist before the panel of independent judges on October 18, 2006:

Kailey Troutman, voice, Oh! Had I Jubal’s Lyre from Handel’s Joshua; from Harrisburg, studies with David Deitz.
Sarah Errickson, voice, O mio Babbino Caro from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi; from Hummelstown, studies with Roger Lentz.   
Emily Webber, flute, Mozart Concerto in G, 1st movement; from Lancaster, studies with Jennifer Grim at the Pa Academy of Music.
Meredyth Morrison, voice, Non so piu cosa son, from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro; from Hershey, studies with Sue Beckley.    
Christopher Kong, piano, Mozart Piano Concerto No. 20; 1st movement; from Lititz, studies with Dr Carl Cranmen.   
Chen Zhuang, piano, Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23 1st movement; from Hershey, studies with Dr Eric Fung.
