HSO Brings in the Holidays

HERSHEY, PA - The Hershey Symphony will present its annual "Holiday Spectacular" on Friday, December 5, 2008, 8:00 p.m., Hershey Theatre, Hershey, PA. This annual tradition is sponsored by The Hershey Company. The evening's repertoire will feature an assortment of holiday favorites including Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride and Christmas Festival Overture, and other wassail tunes.

One of our special guests for this special evening will be the 2008 Hershey Symphony Young Artist Competition Winner Hilary Zirkle performing Carl Maria von Weber's Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra. From Boiling Springs, PA, YAC Winner clarinetist Hilary Zirkle is a junior at Cumberland Valley High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society and National Foreign Language Society. Hilary has been playing clarinet for 5 years, and is studying under Dr. Richard Klinedinst. In school, Hilary is involved in the Symphonic Winds ensemble, orchestra, and musical pit orchestra. She has been principal chair in District, Regional, and All-State Band, and became an honorary member of the Army Field Band. Since 2005, Hilary has been a member of the Harrisburg Youth Symphony Orchestra. Outside of school, she enjoys solo work at Market Square Presbyterian Church and Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church.

The Hershey Symphony Festival Strings - the symphony's very own youth orchestra, and the Hershey Community Chorus will also make special appearances with the Symphony.

For more than 37 years, the Symphony has entertained music lovers throughout Central Pennsylvania with classical, romantic, baroque, contemporary, symphonic and Broadway favorites. Comprised of outstanding local musicians, the Hershey Symphony Orchestra is one of the largest volunteer community orchestras in the nation.
