The Hershey Symphony Celebrates the Holidays

HERSHEY, PA - The Hershey Symphony will present its annual "Holiday Spectacular" on Sunday, December 6, 2009, 8:00 p.m., Hershey Theatre, Hershey, PA.  This annual tradition is sponsored by The Hershey Company.  The evening's repertoire will celebrate the holidays featuring an assortment of holiday favorites including Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, Leroy Anderson's Christmas Festival Overture, other wassail tunes and a holiday sing-a-long.  The evening will also celebrate the birthdays of Franz Josef Haydn, George Frideric Handel, Victor Herbert, Felix Mendelssohn and Henry Purcell. 

The 2009 Hershey Symphony Young Artist Competition Winner Eva Dove will be a featured guest artist performing Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto No. 1 in E minor.  From Lebanon, PA, seventeen year old Eva Dove is a senior enrolled in the PA Virtual Charter School.  She is a Certificate Program student at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music and currently studies with Dr. Michael Jamanis and Ms. Meredith Amado.  In the summer of 2008, Eva studied with violin pedagogue Aaron Rosand at the Summit Music Festival, where her piano quintet also received the festival's chamber music award.  Eva has received master classes from violinists David Kim, Grigory Kalinovsky, Misha Vitenson, Robert Davidovici, Arnold Steinhardt and members of the Guarneri, Miami, and Cypress String Quartets.  In August of 2009, Eva appeared in Central PA Magazine's "Reaching for the Stars" feature that highlighted five artists under the age of 25.  This year's Young Artist Competition was sponsored by Charles Turner of Turner and Associates of Hershey.

Other special guests for the evening will be the nationally recognized Hershey Symphony Festival Strings. Under the direction of Dr. Sandra Dackow, the Hershey Festival Strings is a middle school string orchestra for students in grades sixth through nine from the greater Hershey/Harrisburg areas.   Members of Festival Strings are accepted, without audition, and represent over 30 schools from the central Pennsylvania region.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, $8 for students, and 12 & under are admitted for free.  Tickets are now available for purchase through both the Symphony and Hershey Theatre Box offices and may be purchased by cash or major credit card. Please note that a $2.00 processing fee applies to all orders taken from the Hershey Theatre box office.
